What in the world does “Kainay” mean?
Contrary to popular belief, we were not named for the singer Kanye West. Kainay is a word that comes from the Greek language (the language the New Testament was written in) and it means new, fresh or innovative, which is what we try to be. It’s pronounced ki as in “kind” and nay as in “neighbor.”
What denomination is this?
Kainay is a member of the Willow Creek Association but technically we are interdenominational. Basically our beliefs are shared by many different evangelical Christian groups and since labels often serve to divide rather than unite we just decided not to join one. We honestly welcome everyone. Plus, we were looking for a category with a lot of syllables, and we think we picked a pretty good one with eight. We thought about being antidisestablishmentarian (10 syllables), but nobody around here knew what that meant.
What do I do with my kids?
We’re not really sure but good luck with all that. No, seriously, we have a perfect answer: BRING THEM. There's a place at Kainay called “SOUL Zone”—offered during both Sunday services for kids from birth through fifth grade–where your kids can be surrounded by adults who are committed to a safe, clean, fun learning environment. It's where kids can figure out what God and the Bible are all about, and have TONS of fun along the way.
What are your weekend services like?
They’re fun … no, really. Our ambition is to put a smile on God’s face and we have a good time doing it. Life’s tough and we don’t think church should be a place that beats you down but builds you up. Each Sunday at Kainay you’ll find a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with exciting, contemporary worship music. A printed outline for notes and a large-screen PowerPoint presentation help you make the most of the practical and relevant message. Children are well-cared for in a loving, quality nursery and fun-filled “SOUL Zone” classes.
What will happen when I visit for the first time?
If you are visiting for the first time, we will not embarrass you, have you stand up, or ask you to give money. We know that many people want to check out the church and “be anonymous” for a while—and that’s fine with us! Come in, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, and see if this is the church for you.
What do I wear to attend your services?
You’ll mostly find casual clothes at Kainay. You can dress up if you want to (we don’t discriminate), but you may be the only ones. Come in what is comfortable for you, because Kainay is not about what you look like or what you wear.
